La investigaci\u00f3n se basa en la optogen\u00e9tica, una t\u00e9cnica cient\u00edfica que permite modificar ciertas c\u00e9lulas para que respondan a est\u00edmulos luminosos.<\/p>\n<p>De acuerdo con la investigaci\u00f3n, el equipo consigui\u00f3 que m\u00fasculos reaccionaran ante se\u00f1ales de luz despu\u00e9s de introducir prote\u00ednas fotosensibles derivadas de algas en neuronas y tejidos musculares. Posteriormente, mediante iluminaci\u00f3n LED, lograron activar contracciones musculares similares a las que normalmente produce el cerebro a trav\u00e9s del sistema nervioso.<\/p>\n<p>El experimento fue realizado en modelos animales y mostr\u00f3 una respuesta m\u00e1s precisa y estable en comparaci\u00f3n con la estimulaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica convencional, m\u00e9todo utilizado actualmente en distintas tecnolog\u00edas m\u00e9dicas y prot\u00e9sicas. Seg\u00fan los resultados difundidos por el MIT, el sistema basado en luz permiti\u00f3 mantener actividad muscular durante m\u00e1s de una hora continua, mientras que la estimulaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica suele perder efectividad despu\u00e9s de varios minutos debido a la fatiga muscular.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores se\u00f1alaron que uno de los principales problemas de las pr\u00f3tesis modernas es la desconexi\u00f3n entre el cuerpo y los dispositivos artificiales. Muchas personas experimentan movimientos limitados, cansancio r\u00e1pido y una sensaci\u00f3n de que la pr\u00f3tesis no forma parte natural de su cuerpo. El nuevo enfoque busca reducir esa barrera mediante una comunicaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s cercana al funcionamiento biol\u00f3gico humano.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio plantea que la estimulaci\u00f3n \u00f3ptica podr\u00eda ofrecer movimientos m\u00e1s naturales y precisos, ya que las fibras musculares responden de manera distinta a la luz que a la electricidad. Esta caracter\u00edstica permitir\u00eda desarrollar sistemas de asistencia motriz m\u00e1s eficientes y con menor desgaste f\u00edsico para los pacientes.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s de su posible aplicaci\u00f3n en pr\u00f3tesis avanzadas, la investigaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n abre la puerta a futuros tratamientos para personas con par\u00e1lisis, lesiones neuromusculares y enfermedades degenerativas. Los cient\u00edficos consideran que, en el largo plazo, la tecnolog\u00eda podr\u00eda utilizarse para asistir funciones corporales complejas o mejorar la interacci\u00f3n entre sistemas rob\u00f3ticos y tejidos humanos.<\/p>\n<p>El avance tambi\u00e9n ha generado inter\u00e9s por las implicaciones \u00e9ticas y tecnol\u00f3gicas relacionadas con la modificaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica de c\u00e9lulas humanas para responder a est\u00edmulos externos. Especialistas han se\u00f1alado que el desarrollo de este tipo de herramientas requerir\u00e1 regulaci\u00f3n y estudios adicionales antes de su posible implementaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica.<\/p>\n<p>Guillermo Herrera-Arcos forma parte de una nueva generaci\u00f3n de cient\u00edficos mexicanos que participan en proyectos de innovaci\u00f3n internacional en \u00e1reas como biomecatr\u00f3nica, neurotecnolog\u00eda e interfaces humano-m\u00e1quina.
